DESCRIPTION

TB Undergrads (TBUP) will spend approximately 400 hours in a SEATRAC-affiliated lab on a TB project. These hours will be completed intensively as a summer experience. Accepted applicants will receive a stipend, up to $4000 for full-time summer experience. TB Scholars will also participate in a regular small group series where students meet with faculty and discuss topics in TB, published papers, and have career path discussions.

Eligibility

  1. Academic excellence
  2. Currently an enrolled as undergraduate.  Accepted candidates should be able to commute to Seattle for work.
  3. Interest in a career in science and/or medicine
  4. Specific interest in tuberculosis research

Application

Application materials are accepted twice per year. The next round of applications is due by 5pm March 1, 2024. Accepted applicants will be informed during Spring Quarter. This round of students will begin the TBSP program in Summer 2024. 

Applicants must complete the SEATRAC Membership form.

Submit the following to seatrac@uw.edu:

  • Letter of Recommendation: Please provide one letter of recommendation from a professor or instructor. Although no previous research experience is required, a letter from a research mentor is welcome if available.
  • Resume or Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Undergrad transcript (or high school transcript if applying as an incoming, undergraduate student)
  • Proof of undergraduate enrollment if first-year undergraduate student (copy or screenshot of class schedule)
  • Personal statement (total 250-500 words): Describe your career goals and how a research experience in a health profession addressing infectious disease (TB, COVID, HIV/AIDS) research augments your plans.
